Demetz, S. Fibeln der Spätlatène- und frühen römischen Kaiserzeit in den Alpenländern. (Rahden, 1999).

Fibulas of the late Latène and early Roman imperial period in the Alpine countries.

Early History and Provincial Roman Archeology, Vol. 4, 1999, 315 pages, 41 plates, maps, tables.

The work is based on a comprehensive catalog (100 BC-50 AD) for the area between Ticino and Lower Austria and between the Danube and Po. On the basis of this, the state of research, typology, method of support, distribution, origin and chronology are examined for all fibulae. For the dating comes fibulae from Slovene and Upper Italian burial grounds, which are absolutely dated by late Hellenistic or early Roman pottery and coins, of utmost importance, especially since they have so far received no attention in the current discussion about late Latène chronology in Central Europe. This results in five basic areas: Gaul, Lombardy southern Switzerland, Poebene-Südalpen, Noricum and Rätien. In the Alps win in the 1st century BC. With Roman influence increasingly southern fibulae in importance, while in the north and east new fibulae are only selectively received. In Augustan times there is a revival of older traditional customs, which is explained with a demarcation of the rural population in their territories and only with increasing Romanization had to give way to national costumes.
