On a denarius of Q. Pomponius the laureated head of a female appears as the obverse type. On the reverse is the legend Q. POMPONIVS MVSA, and the figure of a woman standing. This is supposed to represent Clio, and the lyre which she holds in her left hand, and on which she is in the attitude of playing, bears allusion to her reputed invention of that musical instrument, with which she sang the praises of heroes.
