Argus, the name of the faithful dog of Ulysses, that alone knew his master returning home after twenty years' abscence. [Homer, Odyss 1 |xvii|]. A family denarius represents Ulysses disguised as a merchant, and his dog in the sttitude of fawning on him. See Mamilia gens.
