Albogalerus

Please add updates or make corrections to the NumisWiki text version as appropriate

ALBOGALERUS, a sort of cap of white wool, which the Flamen Dialis, or priest of Jupiter, alone had the privilege of wearing. It was made from the fleece, or skin, of some white animal sacrificed to Jupiter, and was surmounted with a small sprig of olive. In the coins of Julius Caesar, this albogalerus is seen to indicate the office of pontifer maximus. - See Apex.
