Victorinus succeeded Marius to the throne of the Gallic Empire. During his reign, Spain rejoined the rest of the Roman Empire. His officers, offended by his relentless pursuit of married women including their wives, murdered him.

Victorinus was chosen by Postumus as colleague about AD 265, through the exertion of his mother Victoria, and reigned a short time alone after the deaths of Postumus and Laelianus. Having insulted the wife of one of his clerks, he was put to death along with his son (Victorinus II) by his soldiers in AD 267.
