Thorax, the breastplate or corslet of a Roman warrior’s suit of defensive armour.  This is sown on numerous coins of the imperial series, from Domitian, Trajan, Hadrian, and Antoninus Pius, down to the lower ages of the empire.  The breastplate is placed on a trophy, or by the side of the Emperor.  It serves also as a seat for Pallas, Roma, Virtus and Victoria.
