Carradice Sigloi Types

I.   Darius I.  c. 520 - 505 BC.  c. 5.30 - 5.39 g.  Carradice type I, plate XI, 10; BMC Arabia, p. 175, 196 ff.; SGCV II 3427; Klein 753. 
     Half length figure of the Great King right, crowned, arrows in right, bow in left, no quiver.  Very rare.

II.  Darius I - Xerxes I. c. 505 - 480 BC.  c. 5.30 - 5.39 g.  Carradice type II, plate XI, 11 - 13; BMC Arabia, p. 173, 185 ff.; SGCV II 3428; Klein 754.  
      Kneeling-running figure of the Great King right, bearded, crowned, quiver at shoulder, drawing bow.  Rare.

     1/2 Siglos.  Rosen 669

     1/3 Siglos.  SGCV II 3429, SNG Kayhan 1027, Klein 755

     1/4 Siglos.  Klein 756

     1/12 Siglos.  SNG Kayhan 1028, Klein 757

III.  Xerxes I - Darius II.  c. 480 - 420 BC.  Carradice type III, plate XI, 14 ff; SNG Kayhan 1029 (fine style), SNG Kayhan 1030.  
       Kneeling-running figure of the Great King right, crowned, transverse spear with point downward in right, bow in left.

     IIIa.  Darius I, c. 480 -  450?.  c. 5.30 - 5.39 g.  Carradice type IIIa, plate XI, 14 - 15; BMC Arabia, p. 157, 64 ff.; Rosen 670 ff.; SGCV II 4678.  
              Lighter weight standard is the most important distinction but it is difficult to determine intended weight with wear. 
              Two pellets behind beard, with quiver, V-shaped folds on front of drapery, long beard with flat end, good style.

     IIIb (early).  Xerxes - Artaxerxes I, c. 485 - 420 BC.  c. 5.55 - 5.60 g.  Carradice type IIIb (early), plate XII, 16 ff.; 
             No pellets, sometimes quiver not visible, significant variation in style, some a bit crude.

     IIIb (late).  Artaxerxes I - Artaxerxes II, c. 425 - 375 BC.  c. 5.55 - 5.60 g.  SGCV II 4683.  
            No pellets, sometimes quiver not visible, loose drapery with curving folds.

IV. Darius II - Darius III.  c. 450 - 330 B.C. SNG Kahan 1033 ff., Rosen 674 ff. 
      Kneeling-running figure of the Great King right, crowned, dagger in right, bow in left.

     IV (early).  Xerxes II - Darius II.  c. 450 - 420 BC.  c. 5.55 - 5.60 g.  With quiver, tight folded drapery on legs.  Earliest with stiff figure, shapeless body completely lacking a waist, and often a symbol in reverse incuse.

     IV (late).  Darius II - Artaxerxes II. c. 420 - 375 BC.  c. 5.55 - 5.60 g.  No quiver, v-shaped folds on front of kandys, loose drapery with curving folds and sometimes annulets.

     IV (late).  Artaxerxes II - Darius III.  c. 375 - 330 BC. SGCV II 4683.  Finer style, long beard, sometimes annulets on kandys.

     1/4 Siglos. SNG Kayhan 1041; Rosen 679; Klein 755; BMC Arabia p. 167, 143.  Rare.
