About this type: Le type Victoria est apparu dès la première émission. Il fut ensuite réutilisé avec la titulature de droit IMP C M Q TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG lors des deux émissions suivantes. Comme l'exemple suivant, la Victoire de l'empereur désigne ici l'accession de Trajan Dèce au pouvoir. History : Dèce est né en 201 en Pannonie inférieure. Après une brillante carrière qui lui ouvrit les portes du Sénat, il fut gouverneur de Mésie inférieure sous le règne d'Alexandre Sévère. À la fin du règne de Philippe, vainqueur sur le Danube de hordes barbares, il est proclamé auguste malgré son refus. Il l'écrit à Philippe qui ne le croit pas et marche contre lui. Philippe et son fils trouvent la mort dans la bataille qui a lieu près de Vérone. Dèce joint à son nom celui, prestigieux, de Trajan. Après un passage à Rome, Dèce se rend sur le limes danubien qui, déserté, a laissé filtrer des Goths qui ravagent les provinces danubiennes dont l'empereur est originaire. Il ne parvient pas à endiguer l'invasion. À partir de 250, un nouveau fléau ravage l'Empire, la peste qui décime population et troupeaux et faiblit encore le limes. Il entame une persécution contre les chrétiens en 250 (Polyeucte, Corneille). L'année suivante, il se porte sur le limes, bat les Goths, mais son fils est tué. Il trouve lui-même la mort en voulant le venger. Il est le premier empereur à tomber au combat contre les Barbares.

(1) L'antoniniano era una moneta d'argento battuta su un tondello con poco meno del 40% di fino, il cui peso progressivamente andò scemando sino a portarsi, ai tempi di Decio, ad una media di 3,7g, a fronte di un peso teorico di 3,87 g (1/84 di libbra). Raccolgo in tabella le caratteristiche fisiche degli antoniniani della tipologia di figura tratte dai link di cui sopra:

(2) Secondo il sito francese, http://www.cgb.fr/monnaies/rome/r09/1_article/3tableau.html, la moneta sarebbe stata battuta a cavallo tra la fine del 249 e la metà del 250 dalla 5a officina della zecca di Roma nell'ambito della seconda e della terza emissione del regno. La datazione riportata dal RIC è genericamente riferita al periodo di regno di Decio. Si evince dalla tabella che la moneta di figura presenta caratteristiche fisiche compatibili con quelle dei conî d'epoca.
(3) IMPerator Caius Messius Quintus TRAIANVS DECIVS AVGustus.  Nato nella bassa Pannonia (l'attuale Ungheria) tra il 190 e il 200 d. C., Caio Messio Quinto ricevette da Filippo I l'incarico di ripristinare l'ordine alla frontiera danubiana. Il grande successo riportato indusse le truppe ad acclamarlo imperatore nel 249. Ciò lo pose in rotta di collisione col sovrano regnante Filippo I; nella guerra che ne seguì quest'ultimo risultò perdente e morì in battaglia a Verona. Il Senato romano riconobbe immediatamente il nuovo sovrano, onorandolo col nome di Traiano. Si ascrive a suo merito l'avvio delle opere di riparazione delle strade in tutto l'impero. Nel 250 il nuovo sovrano nominò Cesari i due figli Q. Etrusco Erennio Mesio Decio e C. Valente Ostiliano Mesio Quinto, poi restituì potere al Senato ripristinando la carica di censore e affidandola ad un suo uomo di fiducia, P. Lucinio Valeriano. Nel 249/50 Traiano Decio promosse una feroce persecuzione dei Cristiani, nel 250 ordinò che tutti i cittadini dell'impero firmassero un documento con cui dichiaravano la loro fede negli dei. Vittime della persecuzione furono il Papa Fabiano che fu martirizzato, Cipriano, vescovo di Cartagine, costretto all'esilio, Origene, uno dei padri della Chiesa, incarcerato e torturato. La chiesa cristiana rimase a lungo divisa tra coloro che accettarono pubblicamente gli ordini di Decio (lapsi) e quelli che rientrarono nel grembo della chiesa. La persecuzione si allentò  solo nel 250 a causa della guerra contro i Goti. A contrastarne la minaccia fu inviato nella Mesia il figlio maggiore di Decio, Erennio, nominato dal padre Augusto. Decio presto seguì il figlio nell'impresa  ma entrambi trovarono la morte nella disastrosa battaglia di Abrittus nel giugno del 251 [informazioni tratte da: http://www.tesorillo.com/altoimperio/trajano_decio/1decio.htm#historia].
(4) VICTORIA AVGusti. Il tipo della Vittoria compare sin dalla prima emissione di questo sovrano e fu riutilizzato nelle due emissioni successive associato alla leggenda del dritto, IMP C M Q TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG; con questo tipo si intese celebrare l'ascesa di Traiano Decio al potere.
