260 to 274 A.D.

Gallienus struggled manfully to keep the Empire together, but in 260 AD his son, Saloninus was captured and executed at Colonia Agrippina (Cologne),by the governor of Lower Germany, Postumus. Postumus declared a break-away empire, comprising of Gaul, Germany, Spain and Britain. This empire lasted for 15 years under different rulers until it was regained by Aurelian in 274 AD.
