All issues with the T*/F* bronze mark are very rare.
(The 2017 Revue Numismatique (pages 249 - 261) contains an article about these T*/F* or SOTF (Stars over TF) coins. It lists 29 known examples and 6 have a COMITI AAVVGG reverse. 5 are of Constantine, and one example is of Licinius. The other reverses represented by this bronze mark are GENIO POP ROM (16 known examples), MARTI CONSERVATORI (3 known examples) and SOLI INVICTO COMITI (3 known examples).)

(The Chitry Hoard was found in 2007 in North Central France. It consisted of about 2500 coins from the late 3rd – early 4th centuries.)

(We will never know if MSN was a deliberate mint mark for the London mint, or whether it was an engraver's error. Only 7 coins are known with this mint mark, which would suggest an error. However, there are examples with both a Constantine and Licinius obverse, which might suggest that the use of the MSN mint mark was deliberate. In all, 4 obverse dies are known for this issue and 2 reverse dies. See "A New London Mint mark for Constantine the Great" : Numismatic Circular, July 2009, pp.106 (Lee Toone). LMCC has a further comment on this mint mark on page 64.

This coin has the same reverse die as the Licinius example in my collection. This gives a glimpse into the working practices of the mint. It suggests that reverse dies were mixed and matched and weren't exclusively used for the coins of only one emperor.)

LMCC notes say, "A number of coins have been reported for this mintmark with right, or, more often, left facing trabeate busts. In all of the cases, the F in the right field on the reverse is indistinct. These ... (are) ... presumed to be a P with a "square" rather than "curved" upper part.

My view is that this coin is S P / MSL as CT concludes. An added reason is that GENIO POP ROM coins with S F/MSL reverses do not have trabeate types, whereas S P / MSL coins do. I think this coin belongs to the series of coins in CT 8.07.001 - 8.07.009, but with an unrecorded bust/legend combination. (This has been confirmed by a recent example that clearly has S P / MSL.)

(In about 324 AD, the Londinium mint was producing two coin types. One was of Constantine with a SARMATIA DEVICTA reverse, and the other was a CAESARVM NOSTRORVM reverse used on coins of Crispus and Constantine II. This coin is a mixture of the two, with a Constantine obverse and a reverse used for Crispus and Constantine II. In other parts of the Empire, coins of Constantine were produced with a CAESARVM NOSTRORVM reverse, but on those occasions they had VOT XX in the middle of the reverse, and not VOT X like this one. The Forum Members' Gallery has similar coins produced at the Ticinium and Heraclea mints.)

(This reverse variety is referred to in the footnote to 7.07.003, and is similar to CT 7.07.014 and 7.07.016. This is an unusual variety of a common type, but other examples are known, for example one is listed on Wildwinds.)

This coin was issued in about 323 AD after Constantine defeated a Sarmatian army who attacked a garrison, which was possibly based at Campona (Campona was south of Aquincum, which is now Budapest). Sarmatia was situated on the other side of the Danube. At the time, Constantine was based in Salonica and was preparing for war with Licinius, who was emperor in the East. Sarmatia Devicta means "Sarmatia has been conquered."

(As a general rule, coins with an obverse legend ending in AG are rarer than those with AVG. Also, coins with Sol on the reverse with a spread chlamys are rarer than those where the chlamys is draped over one shoulder. This coin has both rare features.)
