74.4b. James Francis Edward Stuart.Ticket that came with the Roettiers Jacobite medal.

It is about 32 mm in diameter, and made of laid paper (the horizontal laid lines can be seen on the photo).
The ink is dark brown to black. Based on these characteristics, I believe it may date from the 19th century.

The reverse side references the following article (which can be found online):

ex- Elberling 1867

Dr. Elberling (1797- 1873) had a very large collection of Roman coins with many rarities. He published ten articles about the rarest coins in his collection, and material from these articles was used in Henri Cohen's Roman Imperial catalogues - Description historique des monnaies frappées sous l'empire romain

"Dr. Elberling was a German army doctor who was born in 1797 in Silesia, and retired to Luxembourg. He began collecting coins in 1842, after his retirement, and he published ten articles on "The most important Roman Coins in my Collection" in a Luxembourg scientific journal, 1862-1874 (the last posthumous, and with an obituary, whence I derive these facts). He died in Dec. 1873, and his collection, comprising 775 gold coins, over 1000 Republican denarii, c. 2700 Roman imperial denarii, c. 5500 bronze coins, and c. 100 medallions in the various metals, was acquired by the Paris coin dealer Rollin & Feuardent. He particularly sought rare and unpublished coins, and it was 547 coins of this sort that he published in his articles, with 24 plates of quite accurate line drawings. Cohen, and after Cohen's death Feuardent, of course drew on Elberling's ten articles when compiling the second edition of Cohen's famous Roman imperial catalogue."

thanks to Curtis Clay for the above quote

This coin (along with many others) was donated to the Academic coin cabinet of Leiden in 1867, by Dr. Elberling. The academic cabinet merged with the National coin cabinet, but the gifts and donations remained at the university; until recently, when they were reincorporated into the National Numismatic Collection in the Netherlands

Written by Thomas Babington Macaulay
James Miller, Publisher

Thomas Babington Macaulay, 1st Baron Macaulay (1800 – 1859) was a British poet, historian and politician. He published this series of popular ballads about heroic episodes in Roman history in 1842.
The tiltle page of this handsomely produced book states this to be a "New Edition" generously illustrated with wood engravings by George Scharf. There is also a tissue-protected front portrait engraving of Macaulay.
James Miller published in New York City from the 1860s to the 1890s. An 1877 "Publisher's Weekly" contains a small announcement that "James Miller, publisher and bookseller, will remove May 1st from his present quarters to 779 Broadway." This dates the book after the 1877 move.
CONDITION: Near Fine. This is an unusually well-preserved copy of a beautifully designed book. It is clean and tightly bound in a hardcover of chocolate-brown cloth with finely detailed gilt, black and blind stamping: gilt and black on front cover and spine, blind stamping on rear cover. Deep brown endpapers match the cloth color. All page edges are gilt.

PTOLEMAIC KINGDOM (C2)--CLEOPATRA VII and CAESARIONca. 47-40 BC
Cleopatra VII and Caesarion
Æ 25 mm., 8.56 g.
O: Head of Zeus-Ammon right
R:Two eagles standing left on thunderbolt; Isis crown in left field
Cyprus, uncertain mint; cf Svoronos 1842-3. SNG Copenhagen 682-84. Nicolaou 426-461,463- 468. Pincock type 3, 4, 9 and others.
Rare.

It has recently (eg 2020 auctions) been accepted that the Zeus/2 eagles facing left, with headdress of Isis (with or without monogram below) in left field should be attributed to Cleopatra VII and Caesarion co-regency. Evidence and justification has been provided by Richard Pincock, originally in 2008, and subsequently.

Sidney Lanier, 1969 NYU Hall of Fame MedalObv: SIDNEY LANIER 1842 – 1881, Bust facing three-quarters to left. THE HALL OF FAME FOR GREAT AMERICANS AT NEW YORK UNIVERSITY ©1969.

Rev:, Lanier seated against an oak tree among palms and pines looking out over the Marshes of Glynn. Everything in this natural setting was the subject for many of his poems. By his side is his flute representing his great musical success with the Peabody Orchestra. The robe over his lap is a reminder of his long struggle with tuberculosis. ”Beauty dieth not and the heart that needs it will find it” is a quote taken from one of Lanier’s letters to his wife.
