AV: AU KAI NER - TRAIANOC, Laur. head to right, within dotted border, Rectangular CM: ΔAK, Howgego 529 (43 pcs). RV: [LEU]KAD[EwN], Emperor with szepter in quadriga to right, in the field: EN (Year 55), within dotted border. Note: The CM (ΔAK) refers to Trajan's title "Dacicus". Interestingly, the title is already present on the coin. It has therefore been suggested by H.Seyrig that its application was a means for raising money for a gift for the emperor. Antiochos VII (posthumous Cappadocian issue, reigned 138-129 BCE) tetradrachm (AR)Obv.: Diademed head of king Rev.: BASILEWS ANTIOXOY EYEPGETOY (Athena Nikephoros std. within laurel wreath) Field: Monogram above A, phi in right side of field Diameter: 28 mm Weight: 16,43 g SC 2143.2; HGC 9, 1068
These tetradrachms were probably issued in the Kingdom of Cappadocia to fund the usage of Syrian mercenaries. Antiochos VII could be called the last great Seleucid king. He undertook several successful campaigns in the East to reclaim territory lost to the Parthian advance. After his death, however, the Seleucid Empire was rapidly confined to Syria.Nick.vdw

Antoninus Pius
Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ Sestertius (32mm, 25.3g, 10h). Rome mint. Struck circa AD 141-143. Laureate head right / Decastyle temple, with statues on roof and in pediment. RIC II 622. Good Fine.
The great temple of Venus and Roma was actually composed of two temples back to back. The temple of Venus faced the Flavian ampitheatre and that of Rome overlooked the Forum - both were designed by Hadrian himself. Construction began in 121 AD and and remained unfinished on the emperor’s death in 138 AD. Work was at last completed in 141 AD under Antoninus Pius, the event commemorated on this coin. The temple would be destroyed by fire in 307 and later rebuilt by Maxentius, the remains of which can still be seen in Rome today.Ancient Aussie

This type from London was also struck for Diocletian and Maximianus by Carausius, which is why the reverse legend ends with AVGGG. Carausius was hoping that Diocletian and Maximianus would recognize him as a co-ruler; which did not happen. It also has XXI in the exergue, which is a mark of value- probably 20 parts bronze to 1 part silver.

France (feudal): Fulk V (1109-29) and Geoffrey V le Bel/Plantagenet (1129-51), Counts of AnjouBoudeau 153, Poey d'Avant 1506, Duplessy 376, cf. Roberts 4115
Billon denier; Angers mint; 1.06 g., 19.48 mm. max., 0â–«
Obv: + FVICO COMES, cross
Rev: + VRBS AN[DEG]AVS [legend starts at 6 o'clock], monogram of Fulk.
Fulk V, known as the Younger, became the Count of Anjou in 1109 upon the death of his father, Fulk IV (1068-1109). The next year, he married Ermengarde of Maine, cementing Angevin control over the County of Maine. Fulk went on crusade in 1119/20. In 1129, upon his second marriage to Melisende, daughter and heir of King Baldwin II of Jerusalem (1118-1131), he renounced his countship in favor of his son, Geoffrey V le Bel (the Handsome). In 1131 Fulk became King of Jerusalem, and remained king until his death in 1143.
Geoffrey became Count of Anjou, Touraine and Maine by inheritance at age sixteen in 1129. One year earlier, he married the Empress Matilda, daughter and heiress of King Henry I of England (1100-1135). Their son succeeded to the English throne as King Henry II (1154-1189) and was the first king of the Plantagenet dynasty. Geoffrey had received the nickname Plantagenet from the yellow sprig of broom blossom (genêt is the French name for the planta genista, or broom shrub) he wore in his hat.Stkp
