ROMAN EMPIRE, Magnentius Barb* AE Barbaric imitation of a (½) Centenionalis Magnentius (350-353)
* Local mint in Gallia 350-353
* DN MAGNENTIVS PF AVG. Bare head of Magnentius, cuirassed and draped.
* I…IT C (omgekeerd) IVCC. In field: SP; In ex: T R. Two Victories with ornamented shield inscribed …I / V / TVN / X
* 17 mm / 2,19 g. Die axis: 225 degrees. Wonderful green patina.
* Compare RIC 312 (Trier) and for SP in field (Lyons) 136, 138, 140 en 142. Does not appear in Bastien's monography.
I could have easily placed this coin, acquired here at Forvm, in the 'favorite coin'-section because it takes a very special place in my collection. I love the fine style of the barbaric celator, who - in my honest opinion - was extraordinarily talented. It should take some effort on my part to get my hands on an imitation that's more beautiful in appearance than this one.Gert

Matidia was the daughter of Trajan's sister Marciana and thus niece of Trajan, born about AD 68. She assumed the title of Augusta upon the death of her mother in 112. On reverse, Pietas symbolizes Matidia with her daughters Matidia the younger and Sabina, future wife of Hadrian. After her death in 119, a temple was dedicated to her on the forum of Trajan.Charles S

Victorinus PaxRIC 118? 268 - 270 AD
Helvita's spreadsheet: Cadebury Treasure, CHRB II, P- 11, Vinters Park hoard , Elmer 682 var
In general, the Pax-reverse is extremely common for Victorinus*. srukke's type with V - */palm is Cunetio 2543 (597 specimens) or
Cunetio 2547 (350 specimens), depending on whether the obverse legend has dots or not (IMP C VICTORINVS•P•F•AVG being 2547).
OK, Cunetio shows 2543 (597 found) and 2547 (350 found) simply as V branch left star, so it doesn't that one is above the other and unfortunately
these are 2 of the coins which are not illustrated. However, the Cadebury Hoard list DOES describe one as being above the other.
Cunetio 2540 is described as unclear (V?*) but seeing as it also says "cf Elmer 682", and the others also have "cf Elmer 682" I presumed that it
could also be a palm branch and star. RIC 118 does not mention a palm branch at all but just has V* and the RIC example illustrated on plate
XIV (n0. 14) does not have a palm branch.
But there can't have been many in that list otherwise I wouldn't have described it as rare.
With these field symbols rare.
