The railroad was organized in 1845. Seven years later, it reached Newark. The next year, 1853, the name was changed to the Sandusky, Mansfield and Newark Rail Road. In 1869, the B&O Rail Road purchased the route. The $50 bond is the only denomination listed in the Wolka reference and it was assigned a rarity rating of R-5, indicating 11 to 25 known. William Brewer served as chairman of the Board of Selectmen for several years and was also the representative to the General Court from 1801-11 and again from 1814-17.
