The Italian slave girl Musa came to Parthia as part of a peace deal between the Emperor Augustus and King Phraates IV in 20 BC. She bore him a son, Phraatakes, and soon rose in his favor from concubine to queen. To rid herself of competition she persuaded the king to send his other sons to Rome for safety. In 2 BC she and her son poisoned Phraates IV, and Phraatakes became king. Much to the shock of the Romans and Greeks, she proceded to marry her son and became co-ruler but the blissful arrangement lasted only six years. The disgusted Parthian nobility deposed the couple in 4 AD. Phraatakes escaped to Syria were he died soon after. Musa was never heard of again.

Little is known about Theodora. She was the daughter or step-daughter of Maximianus and married Constantius I c.A.D.292. Theodora and Constantius had six children whose names were Flavius Dalmatius, Julius Constantius, Hannibalianus, Constantia, Anastasia and Eutropia. This coin was struck after her death, as were all her coins, under Constantine II, Constantius II and Constans, the sons of Constantine I.

Annia Galeria Faustina was the youngest daughter of Antoninus Pius and Faustina Senior. She married Marcus Aurelius in A.D.145 and was given the title of Augusta on the birth of her first child in A.D.146. She went on to have several more children, one of whom was the future emperor Commodus. In A.D.175 Faustina accompanied Marcus Aurelius on his journey to the East but she died at Halala, a village at the foot of the Taurus Mountains.

Poppaea was renowned for her beauty and voluptuous extravagance. Nero divorced his first wife Octavia to marry her in 62 A.D. Three years later, in a fit of anger, Nero kicked her in the abdomen. Pregnant, she died from her injuries. Others speculate that she simply died while giving birth.

She doesn't come across as a great beauty in other busts, but I think she's rather beautiful in this version. She has a sad expression in her eyes, as if she can see what's coming for her...

FLACILLA (Aelia), the first wife of Theodosius the Great; born in Spain, daughter of Antonius, prefect of Gaul, she was celebrated for her piety, and for her benevolence to the poor. Arcadius and Honorius were her sons by the above named emperor, who married her before his accession to the imperial throne.

She died in Thrace, A. D. 388. Her brass coins are of the lowest degree of rarity, her gold and silver most rare.

A half aureus of this empress's, on which she is styled AEL FLACILLA AVG, bears her head crowned with a diadem enriched with precious stones. - SALVS REIPVBLICAE is the legend, and a victory inscribing on a shield the monogram of Christ, is the type of the reverse.

Arsinoe II married Lysimachus at the age of 15. After Lysimachus' death in battle in 281 BC, she fled to Cassandreia and married her paternal half-brother Ptolemy Keraunos. As he became more powerful, she conspired against him leading to the killing of her sons, Lysimachus and Philip. After their deaths, she fled to Alexandria, Egypt to seek protection from her brother, Ptolemy II Philadelphus; whom she later married. As a result, both were given the epithet "Philadelphoi" ("Sibling-loving (plural)") by the presumably scandalized Greeks.

Arsinoe II Philadelphos, died 270-268 BC.

Gaius had the ashes of his mother returned to Rome soon after he came to power in 37 AD. He celebrated the memory of his mother, father and brothers, all murdered by Tiberius, with a series of coins. The sestertius issue was reserved for the memory of his mother. Note the lack of S C on this issue which has S P Q R instead.

Some additional info from Curtis Clay
"Your coin can be precisely dated to c. spring 247.
Not earlier, because it shows the altar at Concordia's feet which was added to the type c. spring 247. Not later, because Otacilia's obv. legend still begins with M, which was dropped from the legend c. summer 247.
These dates depend on the assumption that these changes were simultaneous with similar changes on the coins of Philip I, one of whose types bore the date TR P IIII, equivalent to 247 AD."

SGI 419; Heiss 272,35; Cohen 247,1.

Though this coin is reputed to portray Caesonia, this is not likely for its obverse is dated TR P COS = 37 AD, yet Caligula did not marry Caesonia until late 39! RPC 185 calls the lady Salus, but also mentions possible IDs with Antonia or Livia (p. 92).
