RIC 1058 VespasianAR Denarius, 3.21g
Rome mint, 79 AD
Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG; Head of Vespasian, laureate, l.
Rev: TR - POT X COS VIIII; Capricorn l. : below, globe
RIC 1058 (C). BMC 251. RSC 554. BNC 219.
Ex Harlan J. Berk BBS 138, 1 June 2004, lot 224.

A denarius from Vespasian's last issue struck before his death in June 79. It copies an Augustan reverse design featuring Capricorn his natal sign.

The globe under the Capricorn is normally cross-hatched. Rare and unusual with curving latitudinal lines.

c) Hristova/Jekov (2013) No. 6.24.34.5 (plate coin)
extremely rare (R9), about VF, green patina

This type is not listed in AMNG nor in Varbanov (engl.). I found it in Hristova/Jekov's monography about Marcianopolis. Here the obv. legend is listed as KM OPEL ANTWNEINOC, but the depicted specimen is so worn, that I think the legend is added without evidence. So it is possible that the legend is identical with the legend on my coin.

Septimius Severus Iovi ConservatoriSEPTIMIUS SEVERUS AR silver denarius. Struck 197-198 AD. L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP X, laureate head right. Reverse - IOVI CONSERVATORI, Jupiter seated left holding Victory & scepter. RSC 236. 17mm, 3.9g.

The ubiquitous 'IOVI CONSERVATORI' (Jupiter, the Savior) makes its first appearance on Roman Coins with this issue by Severus in 197AD. The reverse legend would go on to appear on a majority of coins from the tetrarchy period, a century later.
