I have not been able to attribute this coin with certainty. Valentinian III had a similar reverse for Cherson, except those were AE2s and the bust was helmeted. On mine, the bust is diademed and the coin is much smaller and thinner. I think this is probably a variant, or possibly an imitation, of the Cherson issue.

Roman Empire, Vespasian, unpublished variant of RIC 1497 and RPC II 1470Description: Vespasian medium bronze, 11,1g, 30mm, 6h
Obv.: IMP CAESAR VESPASIAN AVGVST, laureate head right
Rev.: PONT MAX TR POT P P.COS.VIII.CENS (around) S C (field), Ceres, veiled, standing left with two corn ears and cornucopiae.
RIC 1497 (not Roman mint, possibly Ephesus, AD 77-78) var. (obv. legend ends in AVGVST (B-type) not AVGVSTVS (A-type)). The coin as a B-type is probably unpublished so far in combination with this reverse.
RIC 1497 matches with RPC II 1470 and was R3 (only one known). The recent RPC S3 Supplement reports of another example found in Athens during excavations (To Mouseio kai è anaskaphè. Eurèmata apo ton chôro anegersès tou neou mouseiou tès Akropolès (Athens, 2006), p. 45, n° 90.)

Obv - Head of Vespasian, laureate, r.
Rev - No legend. Vespasian laureate, standing in triumphal quadriga r., horses pacing, holding branch in r. hand and sceptre in l.
VF

This reverse celebrates Vespasian and Titus' Judaean Triumph at Rome.

Most examples of this reverse type are Antioch mint issues which copy the Rome mint type.

This example is unusual because of the obverse legend IMP CAES VESP AVG PM. RIC and RSC only record this reverse with COS IIII added to the end of the legend. BMCRE does not have either one listed but has a note for the COS IIII type.

This example is a rare official variant which Ian Carradice knows of only three other specimens.

Sogdiana,_Imitative_Antiochos_I__AR_drachm_.jpg
Greek, Sogdiana, Imitative Antiochos I Soter, 281-261 BC, AR Drachm Laureate head of Antiochos right.
Retrograde legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ANT[I]OXOY curving from left to below and before a bridled horned horse head right, circled Δ to far right.
SC 461-462 (var. – controls); HGC 9, 136 (var. - controls) (R3).
Sogidana, uncertain mint, mid-third century BC.
A unique and unrecorded variant of SC 461-462.
(17 mm, 2.86 g, 6h)
ex- William K. Raymond Collection

The crude style, the retrograde semi-circular legend, the disposition of the mint control and the low weight of this coin are indicative of a Sogdian imitation of the Antiochos I drachm type that was issued by the mint at Ai Khanoum in Baktria during the period 281-261 BC. Unlike the imitative coin the official issue was struck on the Attic weight standard of 4.3 grams. The style of this coin and the full replication of the Ai Khanoum mint control place it early in the Sogdian imitative series, possibly contemporaneous with the lifetime Antiochos I issue that it imitates. Marcanda/Samarkand and Bukhara are likely candidates for the origin of this coin.

Obverse die macth to SC 94.4; SNG Copenhage 670; HGC 9, 10g (C). Babylon II (Native or Satrapal Mint) 311-305 BC. A unique example of the type – undocumented with the erased anchor.
(27 mm, 17.29 g, 5h).

This is the only known example of SC 94.3c that bears a reverse struck from a die on which the anchor that is normally found in the outer left field has been erased. It is the one of two erased anchor issues in the name of Alexander outside of museum collections. The other example SC 94.5 is also to be found in the LT collection. The anchor erasure has not been documented on SC 94.3c, although it is known on three examples of SC 94.4 that bear a ΠAT monogram mint control in the place of the circled NE monogram found on this coin. The obverse of this coin is a die match to an example of SC 94.4, SNG Copenhagen 670, illustrated in Morkholm Plate V, 82. This previously unrecorded example of anchor erasure is further evidence that the erasure was a systematic and deliberate act in the Babylon II mint that appears to have occurred around the time that Seleukos adopted the royal title.

BYZANTINE, ALEXIUS III ANGELUS-COMNENUS AE Half? TETARTERON S-2015/7v DOC 5 CLBC 8.4.3v DIANE VARIATION UNLISTED OBV Bust of St. George , beardless and nimbate , wearing tunic, breastplate wearing tunic, breastplate, and sagion; holds spear in r. hand resting on l. shoulder and in l. scroll or hilt of sword AND shield behind left arm.

REV Full length figure of emperor wearing stemma, divitision, and chlamys; holds in r. hand labarum on long shaft and in l. Globus cruciger with patriarchal cross.

Size 17.94mm

Weight 2.4gm

I purchased this as part of a collection from Europe. The coin was attributed by previous owner as S-2017 a much rarer coin to find. Upon reexamining the coin, it turned out it has a shield and hilt of sword that the left hand is holding. On the reverse the gl.cr. has a patriarchal cross, this is seen on his half Tetartera.

The weight is average for for a half Tetarteron and a bit low for a full Tetarteron . the die size is around 15mm, small for a Tetarteron and large for a half.

I associated it with SBCV-2015 but in truth it could be a variation SBCV-2017

AKA Alexius III Diane variation.

This Bust type is not listed in RIC. Also this coin is undoubtedly of the style of Serdica but the emission mark does not match that of any published emission mark for Serdica. There is growing evidence of an unlisted second series of mintmarks used during the third emission of Serdica using Greek letters that ran in parallel to the Roman equivalent.

Greek, Ptolemy II Tetradrachm Silver tetradrachm, Svoronos 626 var (no monogram) or Svoronos 644 var (D behind ear), VF, Phoenicia, Tyre mint, weight 14.076g, maximum diameter 27.4mm, die axis 0o, obverse diademed head of Ptolemy I right wearing aegis; reverse PTOLEMAIOU BASILEWS, eagle standing left on thunderbolt, Tyre monogram and club left; rare;

Ex Forvm

Svoronos' description for tetradrachm 626 is the "same as the gold pentadrachm." In the notes for the pentadrachm he notes the type sometimes has a Tyre monogram, but the notes for the tetradrachm 626 discuss only countermarks and not a monogram. The monogram is absent on the plate coin.

Svoronos 644 is be marked with a tiny D behind Ptolemy's ear. On this coin the mark appears to be absent.

This is an unlisted mule with the obverse corresponding to RIC 759 (Vespasian) and reverse corresponding to RIC 761-762 (Titus). RIC 760 is also a mule using the same Titus reverse, but with obverse legend VESPASIAN (RIC 757), not VESPASIANVS like this one. Belongs to issues associated with bronzes of smaller denominations minted for Syria.

Roman Empire, Domitian Unlisted Pax DupondiusObv: CAES DIVI VESP F DOMITIAN COS VII
Domitian laureate right
Rev: PAX AVGVST
Pax standing left holding branch and caduceus leaning on cippus.

This coin was minted some time between Domitian's seventh consulship in 80 AD and the death of Titus in 81 AD. The reverse type appears to be identical to RIC II 727 (Vespasian); BMCRE 747 (Vespasian) however, unlike this coin, the listed coin has the obverse inscription CAESAR AVG F DOMITIANVS COS VI. This coin appears therefore to be a continuation of that type after Vespasian's death with a different obverse inscription.

This is a very rare full legend instead of the usual abbreviation "MAC AVG". In addition, the variant "MACELLVS" is used instead of the usual "MACELLVM". This type (with normal legend) is listed as extremely rare (R2) in RIC. A coin of the same reverse die but in (a)EF condition was auctioned by Numismatica Ars Classica, 2 April 2008, Auction 45, Lot number: 91.

"Lucilla, AE As. 9.97g; 26mm. 164-166 AD. Obv: LVCILLAE AVG ANTONINI AVG F, draped bust right. Rev: unclear legend, Venus standing right, holding apple and sceptre, S-C across fields. cf. RIC 1770; Cohen 80. This is the only Lucilla coin in RIC which has a deity standing right holding a sceptre (there is a Diana holding a torch with both hands). The legend seems to contain ..IT or AT.. and ends in A, but there are no coins in RIC which have such a legend. This coin is almost identical to one sold by Noble Coins Australia with the same description, though that one was a dupondius)"

Note by Johny SYSEL: "It could be mule combining Lucilla obverse with Faustna II reverse. But definitely there is Laetitia on reverse not Venus."

Note by Curtis Clay: "I think Johny S is right: a mule with a LAETITIA reverse die meant for Faustina II. Rome mint mules are rare. This one might help to establish the chronology of Lucilla's and Faustina's respective coinages."
