from Forum Ancient Coins, thanks!

CROSS-RHO, or TAU-RHO, is an early Christian symbol. Probably it is the sign described by Lactantius which Constantine I put on the shields of his soldiers at the Milvian bridge. It is an abbreviation of the Greek 'stauros', meaning 'cross', therefore called often 'staurogram'.

From Forum Ancient Coins, thanks!

Most references describe the reverse on this very rare type as the plan of a Roman camp. But experts disagree and there are many theories. One possibility is that the reverse depicts what Constantine saw in his vision; except the god on the coin appears to be Sol, not Christ. One explanation for this is that he did not come to understand the true meaning his vision until just prior to his battle with Maxentius (when he may have had another vision) (FAC).

The symbol in the upper left field sometimes is called Iota-Chi, but probably in error. The actually Iota-Chi is found later, e.g. in an arc of the of the apsis in San Vitale in Ravenna. Alfoldi interprets Lactantius in that way, that it is a hastily painted Chi-Rho.

The position of the horseman is extraordinary and doesn't fit any of the RIC types of FH. And he doesn't wear a pointed cap - as described in RIC - but obviously a turban! So I think he is not an ordinary horseman but a dignitary.

A very interesting coin with a new unrecorded type! Usually this coin should show the RIC type FH4 clutching. But here the horseman is not laying on his horse but sitting, and he is not clutching but resting on the horse's neck. I think it should not subsumed under FH4, but it's a different variant. Not in Helvetica's list.

The rev. is cut a bit disregardfully. So the position of the spear behind the soldier's arm is physically impossible. Not in Helvetica's FH lists. Arles 215 is only described with type FH3 reaching!

Here the horseman is clearly diademed as RIC mentioned (type 4). This should approve Konrad Kraft's assumption that the horseman is not a regular soldier but a member of the Sassanids ruler's family. In the battle of Ktesiphon AD 334 their heir to the throne was captured by the Romans.
