Obverse: the head of a young man, probably Apollo, inside a dotted border.

Reverse: a horse rearing up, with the name ALEXANDROY written above, and the letter Phi, a mintmark, written below

Minted in Macedonia, 336-323 BC, probably at the royal mint at the capital city of Pella.

Sassanid Silver Drachm of Khurso IIA Sassanid silver drachm of Khusro II, minted in Hamedan between 596-597 AD. 32mm, 3.8g

Obverse: a bearded Khusro II wearing a winged crown, armor, and robe, with inscriptions in Sassanian Pahlavi (a Middle Persian script) to the upper left and right that say "Khusro, May His Splendor Grow". The little symbols at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock are stars in crescents.

Reverse: an image of two guards flanking an flaming altar, a symbol of the state religion of Zoroastrianism. To the upper left and right are Pahlavi inscriptions that say "Year 4" and "AHM", indicating the coin was minted in the fourth year of Khusro II's reign (593/594) at the mint of Hamedan (still an important city in norther Iran).
