RPC5359Tetradrachm, Eleutheria, no simpulum. This coin was included in a as yet unpublished study. It shows nicely the minting method used in Egypt at the time. The silver content of the metal used is low and the surface has been treated with acid to remove the copper and then restruck to solidify the silver. The same method was in use in Rome during the last month of Otho´s reign, but as the silver content was much higher, the "purified" surface cannot be observed as easily.
