A note from BCD: Troizen must have enjoyed a special status under Commodus, as did Aigion, Megara and Pagai. These cities and Epidauros are the only ones that issued non-Severan coins in the Peloponnesos, with the exception of the well-established mints of like Corinth, Patrai, Elis, Argos and Lakedaimon.

Following the battle, Philippi became a Roman colony and discharged veterans receiving land allotments settled permanently in the area. Special privileges were allowed to these Roman colonists, such as exemption from taxes and the right to own and market property, and to struck their own coins.

The 'horn-shaped symbol' - often attached to the Thessalian Kabeiri - has no special connection to the cult of this deity - as suggested so long - but is an elephant tusk which we find as dedicated gift to Serapis, Isis, Astarte and Atergatis too (Gaebler, AMNG).

M&M calls the I between legs an altar!

This is one of te last coins of Olbia! After the death of Severus Alexander the coinage ended, and the final decline of Olbia began. The 2nd Gothic Storm in AD 269/70 finally sealed the fate of the city. This was the end of Olbia, the happy, after nearly thousand years of history at the border of ancient civilization.

The revers seems to show Glykon, the snake-god, invented by the Greek prophet Alexander of Abonutichus in the mid-second century. This is, at least, what we can deduce from the writings by the Greek author Lucian of Samosata (c.120-c.190), who devoted an extremely hostile (and extremely amusing) pamphlet to the charlatan he called Alexander the oracle monger.

He is a companion of Asklepios. It is a talking name (the completer) of a greek healing god, who belongs to the most problematic figures of the greek religious history. Late as 'new twig' and 'son of Asklepios' coming to the circle of Asklepos, Telesphoros was introduced by an oracle at the end of the 1st century AD in Pergamon. His earliest inscription is from AD 98-102. From here his cult spread out quickly. Because of is child-shape and his hood cloak Telesphoros is identical with the genii cucullati, which were fertility, healing but death gods too.

Thracia, Hadrianopolis, Faustina jun., Moushmov 3208Faustina jun., died AD 176
AE 23, 5.20g
obv. FAVCTEINA - CEBACTH
Bust, draped, r., hair in bun behind
rev. ADRIAN - OPOLITWN
Tyche Poleos, richly draped, wearing mural-crown, std. l. on rocks, holding grain-ears and poppy(?) in outstretched r. hand, leaning with l. arm on the rocks; waves beneath her feet.
Moushmov 3208; Jurokova -
rare, about VF

Tyche Poleos = City Tyche. The depiction resembles the famous Tyche of Antiochia from Eutychides, but without the river-god beneath her feet.

The coin is so dark that it is difficult to scan it well.

The rev. figure is doubtful. Bonus Eventus should have grain-ears in his r. hand. The description by Jurokova is 'Apollo holding filleted branch'! It looks like a die damage.

It is Nemesis holding measuring-rod and cornucopiae! For Hadrianopolis there are some types showing Nemesis with rod and cornucopiae, sometimes without wheel too (gordian_guy).

from Areich, thanks!

The upper end of the quiver looks rather like a hilt. Interesting that Artemis here holds two arrows!
