Coins of the Tetrarchy

MaximianRIC15b.JPG

The era of the Tetrarchy begins with the elevation of Diocletian to Augustus after the suspicious death of Numerian in 284 AD. His power was established in April 285 AD when during battle with Diocletian, Carinus, Numerian's brother, was murdered by a jealous husband. The era ends in September 324 AD with the surrender and abdication of Licinius and Martinian to Constantine I who became the sole ruler of the empire and founder of the Constantian dynasty.
