CILICIA. Seleuceia ad Calycadnum. Gordian III. Æ 29. A.D. 238-244. Obv: ANTΩNIOC-ΓΩPΔ(IANOCCE)BATOC (sic). Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right; Two countermarks: (1) before bust on neck, (2) on back of head. Rev: CELEUK-E-(ΩNTΩΠPOC)-KAΛV-KAΔ. Athena standing right, holding spear in right hand and shield in left hand, striking down serpent-footed giant, who hurls stone with right hand.Ref: BMC 38 (same obv. die). Axis: 180°. Weight:13.81 g. CM(1): Monogram of K and A, in shaped punch, 4 x 5 mm. Howgego 618 (52 pcs). Note: The countermark likely refers to Calycadnum. CM(2): Δ containing dot, in triangular punch, 6 x 5 mm.
