Description incoming, as is the coin itself (both might take a couple weeks). I am grateful to a bunch of Forum Ancient Coins users for clearing up my suspicions about this specimen.

RPC II, 636. Nicaea (province of Bithynia and Pontus), Domitian

Nice river patina on this one.

It's actually the result of scrubbing. A couple years ago the seller auctioned the same specimen with a gorgeous thick green patina except for a couple light bluish spots, which turned out to be a bad case of bronze siphylis. So they had to remove the patina entirely, damaging the surface in the process. Search for discussion topic "Beware of RPC II, 636" (unfortunately I can't seem to link to it), you'll find pictures of the coin before and after treatment as well as the remarks of some very knowledgeable users.
