Many of the Roman moneyers minted types that were based on homonyms or word games with their own name. On this type, Pan is a play on his name, Pansa. The temple of Jupiter Anxurus was built by Sulla at Terracina in Latium. The town's ancient Volscian name was Anxur.
Ex-FORVM. (Above text, FORVM Ctg.).
