Winged caduceus and Δ
SARMATIA. Olbia. Civic. Æ 26. Time of the Flavians to c. A.D. 170 (likely early in that period). Obv: Laureate head of Apollo right; 2 countermarks: (1) on bust, (2) behind bust. Rev: (?)Λ(B?). Sea-eagle with spread wings, standing right on dolphin. Ref: BMC -; Anokhin 376 (?); Nechitailo 655 (?). Axis: 360°. Weight: 16.09 g. Note: The attribution, dating and references of this coin are uncertain. CM(1): Winged caduceus in oval punch, 5 x 10 mm. Howgego 390 (102 pcs). CM(2): Δ in shaped punch, 6 x 7 mm. Howgego 787 (61 pcs).Note: The countermarks may have been applied in the 170s, although the application of countermarks probably went on for a long time. Collection Automan.
