S with pellet inside either bow
MYSIA. Germe. Titus. Æ 18. A.D. 79-81. Obv: (CEB)AC-AYTO(KAI). Laureate head of Titus right; countermark behind head. Rev: CEBAC-AYT(OKAI). Laureate head of Domitian right. Ref: BMC -; RPC (II) 930. Axis: 330°. Weight: 3.03 g. Note: RPC attributes the coin to the reign of Titus, and presumes that Domitian is erroneously given the title Augustus Imperator. CM: S with pellet inside either bow, in rectangular punch, 2.5 x 4.5 mm. Howgego 742 ii variant (9 pcs). Note: Howgego argues that the most likely interpretation of the ”S” is as a denominational mark, although there are much larger coins of Titus bearing the same countermark. Collection Automan.
