BYZ▪Δ
|
Uncertain mint. Æ 26. 1st-2nd Century A.D. (?). Obv: Outline of early imperial bust; countermark before. Reverse worn smooth. Weight: 8.80 g. Found in Spain according to seller’s notes. CM: BYZ▪Δ in rectangular punch, 4.5 x 11 mm (actually the "Z" is mirrored). Howgego 520 var. (2 pcs). Note: Likely applied in Byzantium (Thrace). This specimen is quite clear, and it would seem that the countermark is made up of a combination of a city reference (BYZ) and a denomination (Δ). Collection Automan.
