Pertinax sestertius Providentia357 viewsFrom my own Black Cabinet:
Pertinax sestertius, RIC 22, Providentia reverse.
A coin which puzzled me for a long time since it has that "soft" looks but no foolproof signs of casting and some seemingly convincing patina stains. But Curtis Clay had the coin in hand and says it is an older cast, and that the patina comes off rather easily because it isn't real. It is, however, a cast from a genuine original, the dies are known.

Didius Julianus, Denarius, RIC -. Deemed modern fake on style.333 viewsObv:- IMP CAES M DID SEVER IVLIAN AVG, Laureate head right
Rev:- P M TR P COS P P, Jupiter standing left, holding thunderbolt and sceptre.

References:- None. This coin would appear to be a modern fake of a type that does not make sense for Didius Julianus and appears to be copying its reverese type from a coin of Severus Alexander.

Modern pressed/struck forgery
Found for sale as genuine at auction

"Check Prokopov II (2004), on Lipanoff studio, and compare there p. 46, no. 70, same die pair. Since these are, he says, hammer struck and by hand, it needn't look cast." Patricia Lawrence

"Albinus, as Caesar, was never P M or TR P or P P. Nor is there such an authentic contemporary rev. type of Septimius Severus, which could have been joined with an obv. of Albinus in a mint mule. So typologically, the coin cannot be genuine--a rather elementary mistake of the forger!" Curtis Clay
