Commodus medallion361 viewsModern forgery
-Style wrong for Rome mint.
-The patina of this medaillon is faked or at least artificial. It's a kind of paint.
-For your information, this medaillon comes from the Balkan region.
Weight: 23,48 gram, diameter flan ca 35 mm
Posted to fakes board by Gert
"You've already pronouced the correct verdict and stated the correct reason: the style of both types and lettering is quite impossible for a Rome-mint coin of Commodus."... and..."Eastern medallions generally bear a city name, plus they do not copy the rev. type and legend of Roman coins. Eastern gold and silver, meant for paying the troops, may do that, but there are no corresponding Eastern bronze coins.
It's not a Becker, Jochen. Leafing through the plates of the book, it seems Becker counterfeited gold and silver coins only, no bronzes. Curtis Clay
