Brutus denarius403 viewsSeller's description:

MARCUS BRUTUS ROMAN DENARIUS COIN 42BC COPY

This is a faithfull copy of the Roman DENARIUS coin which was struck in silver from the mint in Rome at 42 BC. The words inscribed around this coin are L SESTI PRO Q/Q CAEPIO BRVTVS PRO COS, and shows the Libertas over the Tripod and axe and simpulum.

Marcus Junius Brutus was Governor of Cisalpine Gaul (south of the Alps). He was a close friend to Emperor Julius Caesar who made two expeditions to Britain in 55 and 54 BC. He was chief assassin in the plot against Julius Caesar, 44BC, and became Chief Magistrate of Rome two years later. With his fellow assassin Cassius he was defeated and killed at the BAttle of Philippi the same year.

This coin is hand cast by English craftsmen in lead free pewter and antique finished. Measures 17mm diameter.

Brutus, EID MAR denarius392 viewsBrutus, EID MAR denarius. Another replica of this popular type. Notice the blobs before his forehead and below the cap. There are apparently genuine examples of the type with the same blobs, so it seems this fake coin was cast using a mold made from a genuine coin struck with damaged dies. Not every coin with the blobs is fake.

R beneath the pileus on the reverse, for "Replica" or "Reproduction."

Julius Caesar denarius389 viewsDangerous fake of a denarius of Julius Caesar. It's so beautiful that an Italian seller bought it as geniune. The surface is a bit rough (as many genuine) and the reproduction is very good.
