Domitian_and_Domitia.jpg
Domitian and Domitia AE23699 viewsThe only coin with a rev legend like this one listed in the RPC index is from Caesarea by Anazarbus RPC 1749, an AE21. What size is the one above?

Presuming this is indeed the model:

The legends on this one seem to be blundered, note the missing C in CEBACTH (and the H looks like a retrograde N) The original also has a sigma in the modern capital form rather than C in KAICAPEON, and the O should be an omega. Is that an R rather than a Rho there too?

Some of the obv letters are also wrong, (should be a theta not a T after AVTO KAI) and ends CEP were it should be (gamma)EP. PRC notes a variation of the spelling of Domitia, but no variation such as these.

Example on ebay (11/04)

Septimius Severus, Uncertain, provincial bronze502 viewsProvincial Variation. Part of 2003 uncleaned fakes. Image thanks to Bob Bischoff

This forgery demonstrates that even inexpensive coins may be copied. It also demonstrates that it takes some skill to make a good copy. The style and fabric of this coin is wrong. If there was only one, it may have passed as a barbaric fake but it was marked with a large group of fake uncleaned coins.

SS_-_Fake_Nicopolis_SB9623.jpg
Septimius Severus, Nicopolis, AMNG I, no 1354423 viewsIt was described on line as a silver drachm. The original is one of the die pairs listed AMNG I, 1, no. 1354. It is a silver simple 2-mold cast of an AE 18-19 of Nicopolis ad Istrum. The face of Apollo on the reverse was "improved", there is a seam between the two halves, and evidently a sprue, as well. A photo of the edge seam and sprue is available in the evidence of casting study images. Contributed by P.L. Patricia Lawrence (slokind)
