Quote from Curtis Clay "The Caracalla is definitely fake in my eyes, not a mere cast but from false dies copied from an original. Neither of its dies are represented in my large collection of plaster casts of Caracalla sestertii, though there are similar dies from which these may have been copied."

Quote from Barry Murphy "Both [this coin and a Trajan sestertius under question]are fakes. I've seen several of these before."

COCLES Denarius Roma / Dioscuri294 viewsThe original doesn't exist. A similar denarius was restituted by Trajan with the inscription COCLES to commemorate the Gens Horatia, long extinct by that time. Trajan also restored a similar type, also with no original coin, with inscription DECIUS MUS, for the Gens Decia. Sold on German Ebay in Dec. 2005 for 14 Euro by a seller who sells a strange mix of very good and very fake coins.
