Bust: Diademed, draped holding mappa bust left. Rev: PROVIDENTIAE CAESS

Ex: SMH palm branch in field left.
Ref: None

Example of uncleaned fakes which turned up en mass in 2003, believed to have originated in Bulgaria. Quickly identified by the crude style, although originally thought to be Barbaric Imitations when first few appeared. Image courtesy Bob Bischoff at Petroni Coins.

This forgery demonstrates that even inexpensive coins may be copied. It also demonstrates that it takes some skill to make a good copy. The style and fabric of this coin is wrong. If there was only one, it may have passed as a barbaric fake but it was marked with a large group of fake uncleaned coins.

Sold as genuine on ebay, March 2007. Matches with other known examples.

Also from Curtis Clay:-
"The Providentia type of Geta should occur with an older portrait, and a later obv. legend, P SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES.

Moreover, the coin in question shows the PROVID DEORVM type of ELAGABALUS not Geta. Geta's type has no column, Providentia doesn't cross her legs, and she holds a scepter in her l. hand, not a cornucopia. "
