Melita - Malta, Island off Sicily38 viewsMODERN FORGERY. Melita (Malta), Island off Sicily, AE28, 150-146 BC. 12.01 g.
Obv: MELITAIWN, Head of Isis left, wearing Egyptian wig and crown of Isis, symbol of Tanit before head.
Rev: Mummy of Osiris standing facing, looking left, holding flail and sceptre, between the supposed figures of Isis and Nephtys, each with headdress and each holding a palm branch. No wings!
Modern forgery from Eastern Europe muling the obverse of Calciati 7-9 with the reverse of Calciati 2-3 but the figures here are without the wings they should have - the wings have been changed into legs bent at the knee.
Offered on ebay by a person in England but the "coin" would be sent from Bulgaria.
