Justinian I Fake Solidus148 viewsFake of SB 139, 288, 328 etc.
D N IVSTINI-ANVS P P AVG, helmeted and cuirassed facing bust, holding cross on globe and shield decorated with horseman / VICTORI-A AVGGG and officina letter, angel standing facing, holding long cross and cross on globe; (should have a star in right field.) Mintmark CONOB.
This fake has a dot instead of a star in the right field. The bust is very childishly copied, the neck too long, the plume on his helmet is very basic, the name is misspelled (IVISTINI instead of IVSTINI) the metal is too smooth and the entire coin has a very dodgy appearance.
It was sent to me at wildwinds by someone from the middle east asking whether it was genuine. He stated that it was gold and weighed 4.3 gr.

Justinian II53 viewsJustinian II, modern fake solidus. Sear Byz. 1413.
The angled thing on Christ's chest is supposed to be his hand, with two fingers bent in benediction.
The legend at about centre right is incorrect - it should
read REGNANTIVM, whereas it appears to be REGNARTIVM with the second R retrograde.
In addition Christ's hair is always depicted as two rows of
clear curls, not just two rows of dots.
On the obverse, the word PAX on the shield is incorrectly rendered.

Nero Victory As46 views
IMP NERO CAESAR AVG GERM, bearded bust right / S-C across fields, Victory alighting left, holding shield inscribed SPQR.
- 4-5 gr. too light for a genuine As.
- Neither BMC, Sydenham, MacDowall, RIC nor any other reference works consulted show this kind of bearded bust.
- The lower edge has been deliberately damaged to imitate wear.
- Two similar coins, are on forgery network under nos. 7042 and 7044 and another here on the Forum Fake Gallery.(Compare the positioning of the lettering, the slightly off-line position of the P of SPQR, the positions and numbers of dots on the wings etc.)
- The face of the bust is too slender for Nero who was, by this time, distinctly chubby.
Sold on ebay by an English seller in May. 2016 for £38.
