Galba Sestertius89 viewsGalba AE Sestertius.
IMP SER SVLP GALBA CAES AVG TR P, laureate head right.
LIBERTAS PVBLICA S-C, Libertas standing left holding
pileus and sceptre.
Modern Bulgarian fake. Offered (along with a dozen fake "Greek" coins, all purporting to be from Thrace plus one of Himera, to a dealer in southern England by a Bulgarian immigrant, claiming to have found it using a metal detector in Bulgaria.
Same dies as another seen sold on ebay by another seller in southern England.
Neither the obverse die nor the reverse die corresponds
to any of the dies illustrated by Kraay.
Small differences e.g. the positioning of the letters
of the legend in relation to parts of the head or to parts
of the reverse image, the ends of the wreath ties, lack
of detail on Galba's drapery, the angle of the sceptre
on the reverse, all point to this being a modern fake. The
fake patina appears to be flaking off at a couple of areas.helvetica
