cornelia_fake_RIC_32.jpg
Cornelia Supera108 viewsA very poor fake of Cornelia Supera, RIC 32.
Apart from the awfully poorly made obverse, much too flat for one thing, the faker obviously overlooked the fact that Concordia was a female deity - instead they appear to have copied the body and head of the seated Jupiter as he appears on tets. and drachmae of Alexander III.
Cornelia Supera DID have a CONCORDIA AVG coin with Concordia (female) on the reverse, listed as RIC 32, from the Italian Tiepolo Museum. However - and here is the catch which many fakers use - the coin "requires confirmation". So the faker obviously selected this description and made this pathetic object (though making Concordia into a man), because he knows that there is a very very remote chance of a comparison with a genuine example.

Sent to wildwinds for identification, July 2010.

A very poorly made modern fake from Bulgaria, struck in a heavy alloy purporting to be silver, 3.6 g. The person who made the die couldn't even spell NOB properly, using a Cyrillic letter for the B.
