Postumus187 viewsPostumus / Victory

I stumbled upon these cast fakes offered by two different sellers. Note the flan similarities, weakness in the same locations, and defects in the same locations (e.g. a spot between the P and C in the obverse legend and before Postumus' forehead). The crack at 6 o'clock on the reverse is closed. Since these coins are fake, the patinas are obviously also fake.

The one seller is listed as being in from the UK, but based on comments in their feedback, they are shipping from Bulgaria. Based on a quick look of their other listings, I noticed several other clear fakes.

Aelius, denarius906 viewsCast fakes. Note similar surface flaw on both flans at 11 o'clock on the obverse (circled in red). The edge of the bottom coin appears to have been filed to alter the shape of the flan. On the reverse at 5 o'clock a flan crack can be seen on the top coin, with a small trace of the crack remaining on the bottom coin after the alteration.postvmvsJun 25, 2006
