Brundisium_semis_fake.png
Calabria, Brundisium43 viewsThis coin is a fake semis of Brundisium (Brindisi). It is a scarcer version with the moneyer's name on the lower right of the obverse (Q VE). The coin has a painted-on patina and has been offered by EBay sellers and auction houses over several years. This one was offered last year and sold for EUR 51. The coin has also been sold with black or brown patina. Key to the fake is the style of Poseidon's head, the arch of his eyebrow and his crude moustache.Enrico VonghiaJul 29, 2020

Bactria, Agathokles, Fake28 viewsAppallingly wrong style, wrong metal, the type does not exist in bronze.

Looks like a pressed, rather than struck fake.

Dealers description:
Lot 2510. GRIECHISCHE MÜNZEN, ASIEN, BAKTRIEN
AGATHOKLES. 171-160, Merv.AE-22 mm. Drapierte Büste mit Diadem r. Rs: Zeus steht frontal mit Zepter, in der Rechten Hekate mit 2 Fackeln.
MIG -, vgl. 137 ff. Bopearachchi -. RRR ss-vzEx Sammlung A.W. vor 2013.
Die zitierten Corpora verzeichnen nur Silbermünzen dieses Typs. Möglicherweise handelt es sich um eine AE-Anima einer subaeraten Münze, deren Silbermantel nicht erhalten ist.

Translation:Lot 2510 GREECE COINS, ASIA, BACTRIA
AGATHOKLES. 171-160, Merv.AE-22 mm. Draped bust with diadem r. Rs: Zeus stands frontally with scepter, in the right hecate with 2 torches.
MIG -, cf. 137 ff. Bopearachchi -. RRR ss-vzEx collection A.W. before 2013.
The quoted Corpora list only silver coins of this type. Possibly it is an AE anima of a subaerate coin whose silver coat is not preserved.

The last statement simply seeks to "blow smoke" over the fact that it is a most obvious fake.

Ptolemaic Bronze Replica - Electrotype (Galvanocopy) 21 viewsPtolemaic Bronze Replica - Electrotype (Galvanocopy)

Ptolemaic bronze coin (AE32, 25.2gm). It is 'light' for its size. Note a little 'bumpiness' of the surface near the face of Zeus. And the 'coppery' color is unusual for a real Ptolemaic bronze - another hint it's not right. Note also the 'dent' at the edge in front of Zeus. Flaws in cast Ptolemaic bronze flans aren't that unusual but this is probably an actual dent of the copper electrotype shell.

Magnification of sections of the edge seam are provided below the obverse and reverse images.
