Empress "Theodora" fantasy follis96 viewsThe style is a very poor imitation of the authentic coin.
Virtually every detail is wrong is some aspect. It simply does not look
like the authentic coin to anyone familiar with the real coin.
There is no genuine Byzantine coin that looks anything like that.
Also the flan appears to be made of squashed chewing gum.

Gepids, Struck in the name of Emperor Anastasius I50 viewsGEPIDS. Theodoric (489-526). 1/4 Siliqua. Sirmium. In the name of Byzantine emperor Anastasius I.
Obverse: D N ANASTASIVS P P AVG, Diademed and cuirassed bust of Anastasius I, right.
Reverse: INVICT + A RVMANO. Monogram of Theodoric in wreath.
Demo 72-4 var. (rev. legend).
Condition: Good very fine.
Weight: 0.64 g.
Diameter: 14 mm.
Identified by the FORVM discussion board member tejas552 as a modern forgery originating from Eastern Europe:
The style of this coin is completely wrong. I have discussed it with the croatian numismatist Zjelko Demo (the one mentioned in the literature reference by the auction house), and he agrees that the coin is a poor modern fake.
Unfortunately, these fakes are usually very difficult to spot, since there are so many varieties and hardly any publications. A large number of die identical pieces were sold by a seller from Malta over the last couple of years. The individual piece is almost impossible to identify as fake, but as a large identical group it is highly likely that they are all modern manufactures.
However, this is one is unusually obvious, so that I feel it can be exposed as a fake with complete confidence.peterpil19
