Constantine, AE275 viewsJeff Clark noted: This is a very interesting find. It is of a completely different style than the current 1000s of fakes from uncleaned lots and of better quality. There are some very easy to highlight problems with this coin. First, both S's in CONS and TINVS on the obverse are sideways. There is no AVG at the end of the legend. The T's are completely wrong...actually most of the lettering is wrong...but the T's are very apparent with nice little wavy crossbars and too heavy a bar for the upright part. There is also an apparent lack of understanding of the mintmark. This would be an issue of the S U T variety from Ticinum. The Romans would not have used a V in this case for the U. Also, it should be a bronze coin.

bust r., helmeted, cuir.

REVERSE: VIRTV-SAVGG [VIRTVS AVGG];
open camp gate with three turrets, open doors, arch over doors;
varying number of stone layers. P in left field, R in right field. RP in exergue.

NOT IN RIC 7rom-183_con1

REVERSE VARIETY. Camp gate with three turrets has no doors [ROME 165-174] or gate closed [ROME 175-183] (p. 315-316). Open doors are attested only for camp gate with four turrets [ROME 190-193] (p. 316-317). Coin should be listed after ROME 183.
