Bust: Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev: GLORIA ROMANORVM
Emperor advancing right dragging captive and holding labarum
Exe: SIS "A" in field right.
Ref: None. Fantasy coin

These coins were seeded into the uncleaned lost of many of the uncleaned dealers all at the same time. They are not ancient in fabric and stand often stand out amongst the other uncleaned coins. Cleaning them was often a matter of wiping with a cloth rather than long soaks etc. They were undoubtedly modern. It drove a few uncleaned dealers out of business.

This combination of Obv and Rev never existed. Example of uncleaned fakes which turned up enmasse in 2003, believed to have originated in Bulgaria. Quickly identified by the crude style, although originally thought to be Barbaric Imitations when first few appeared. Image courtesy Bob Bischoff at Petroni Coins

Joe Sermarini: The authenticity of coins sold by monneron is disputed. At least one has been authenticated by David Sear. Other coins have been condemned by other experts. At this time it cannot be said with certainty if any or all the coins are genuine or if any or all the coins are fake.

This remarkable medallion is evidently the work of our Bulgarian master-forger - the style is a give-away. A "contemporary" loop was added to make the counterfeit look more real, but is does not succeed in doing so nor does the changed mint mark.

obv: CONSTANTIA N F draped bust, r.
rev: SOROR CONSTANTINI AVG around central wreath, and within wreath: PIETAS PVBLICAover three lines; CONSB in exergue
Of modern manufacture from confirmed modern dies, this is a forgery of one of the scarcest and thus least well known of late Roman bronze types. Note incorrect portrait style and incorrect obv lettering by comparison to genuine examples; the rev. is a more accurate imitation.
