'This is a FORGERY of a Clodius albinus denarius.

There are some reputed sellers selling it as authentic, but in my opinion is a FORGERY.

Clodius Albinus, Denarius, Alexandria76 viewsObv:– D CLOD SEPT ALBIN CAES, Laureate head right
Rev:– FELICITAS COS II, Felicitas standing half left, caduceus in right and scepter in right hand
Minted in Alexandria. A.D. 194.
Cast fake.
I bought the top coin and thought it superfically ok. Whilst researching the coin I located the lower coin. Upon much closer examination I found the traces of a casting seam on my coin confirming it as a cast fake. I suspect the lower coin is a cast fake too though there is an outside chance that it is the host but I doubt it.maridvnvm

Modern pressed/struck forgery
Found for sale as genuine at auction
"Check Prokopov II (2004), on Lipanoff studio, and compare there p. 46, no. 70, same die pair. Since these are, he says, hammer struck and by hand, it needn't look cast." Patricia Lawrence
"Albinus, as Caesar, was never P M or TR P or P P. Nor is there such an authentic contemporary rev. type of Septimius Severus, which could have been joined with an obv. of Albinus in a mint mule. So typologically, the coin cannot be genuine--a rather elementary mistake of the forger!" Curtis Clay
