Severus Alexander/Antoninus Pius Manipulated Mule171 viewsEighteenth century (possibly earlier) medallion, created from two genuine ancient coins, both horribly defaced in the process of manufacturing this modern hybrid fake.
This curious forgery consists of an obverse tooled from an original AE sestertius of Severus Alexander and the reverse of an authentic Antoninus Pius AE sestertius inlaid into the partially hollowed reverse of the Severus Alexander coin.
obv: IMP CAES M AVR SEV ALEXANDER AVG laur. head, r.
