Rev:- Large incuse square, divided into five compartments
Fig 11 is the false coin - 5.72g
Part of a group offered to the Credit Bank in Athens as a hoard. When seen one at a time they probably wouldn't arouse suspiscion at first. Their uniform appearance, however, despite the fact that they range from ca 520 BC to ca 450 BC, give them away. It is interesting to note that they are all from different dies.

Comments by Rupert:-
"Certainly a cast fake, wrong style, wrong texture, totally wrong incusum, those of Aigina look completely different. Incusa of this style do exist, I think in Asia Minor, but not in Aigina."

Aigina, Aegina, silver stater656 views510-490 B.C., 11.40 gm, Dangerous Cast Fake
Two different ebay sellers, one in China, one in NY but Chinese. The buyer of one of these coins reports: Note that the tortoise is offset identically, and the small chip at the 5:00 position on both coins. Also, the flan shape is also identical. These 2 coins are identical in every way, proving that they are cast fakes made from the same mold. My coin weighs 11.5gm. I must admit that this coin is a very high quality forgery, as it doesn't show the usual obvious casting pits or blisters and even shows what appears to be the stretch marks made when struck in a set of dies on the tortoise side. Also, the edge doesn't show any signs of being cast. Joe Sermarini
