Attica, Athens, AR Dekadrachm - Cast Fake249 views42 grams of cast silver purchased in 2006 at the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul for Euro 30. Buy one of these and save yourself about a half million dollars over those offered as authentic!

This cast tourist fake is widely available throughout the sites in Turkey. Pity about the owl's beak! It reminds me a bit of Jimmy Durante, which is a dead give away.

Rev. Owl standing to r., head facing, olive-twing and crescent, all within incuse square.

Cast fake from modern 'dies'. Probably a cast derived from a modern struck fake. Casting errors and bubbles are visible with a number of stylistic errors apparent in comparison to authentic examples.

Sold as a 'probable' reproduction.

22 mm 17 gram pewter struck reproduction of a tetradrachm of Athens. Obverse shows the head of Athena. The reverse shows an owl standing right head facing; olive twig and crescent are within incuse square.

These Antiquanova replicas do not actually match the style of any genuine ancient Athens tet. They mix the styles of different periods with a result that is impossible and which is easily recognized as fake by experts and many collectors.
