| I like coins with technical interest and this one has several. Most obviously it is a bold doublestrike on both sides. The flan used was large enough that it not only contained all the design but also the edge of the reverse die punch shown by the flan curling around its edge. The reverse die was considerably damaged by a die clash. This last feature combines with the doublestrike to prove that the incuse design was part of the die and not result of a brockage or some other damage just to this one flan. All this is accomplished without making the overall coin ugly (a problem with so many coins of technical interest). Die clashes, doublestrikes and coins showing the edge of the punch are individually common. This one made my favorites list by being all in one. |
