Theodosius II, the emperor at Constantinople refused to recognize him and marched into Italy at the head of a formidable army. Johannes did not stand a chance. He was captured at Ravenna in early summer 425 A.D., tortured, mutilated, exhibited in the circus mounted on an ass and executed. All coins of Johannes are rare. |
