Renowned for her beauty and virtue, Antonia spent her long life revered by the Roman people and enjoyed many honors conferred upon her by her relatives. She died around 37 A.D.; she was either poisoned by Caligula or committed suicide after he rejected her. Although she never loved her sickly son, Claudius, calling him a monster and a fool, he posthumously made her Augusta in 41 A.D. and all her coinage was issued early in his reign. |
